Turning IUGR Around
With Creativity, Determination, and Vegetarian Protein

I had a client who had several ultrasounds because her baby was diagnosed with a mild form of a skeletal abnormality. When we first started working together, she was early in her second trimester, and was very concerned about her baby's growth; at that point, he was measuring very low on the percentile charts -
something like 5%.

After we discussed the Brewer diet during our first class, she resolved to increase her protein intake. Although she was eating an excellent vegetarian diet, she was not getting anywhere near the 80-100 grams of protein Dr. Brewer recommended. With some creative thinking and determination, she was able to consistently increase her protein into the recommended range.

At her next ultrasound, her baby's growth had shot up into the 50th percentile. She was very pleased, and attributed this directly to her change in diet. Anything this mom could do to benefit her child, she would - and this diet gave her something concrete to "do" for him.

It turned out that he was born at a healthy weight - 8lbs 8oz.

This story is one more reason why I am so pleased to continue sharing Dr. Brewer's information with my clients, especially since so few of them receive any nutritional counseling from their care providers.
